Inter striker Romelu Lukaku still hasn’t given up hope on returning from injury as soon as the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash with Udinese before the international break.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the 29-year-old is currently working on his recovery in Belgium and wants to be able to make his return to the pitch as soon as possible.

Lukaku has already missed two matches through injury, and his return could have to wait until after the international break, in the Serie A clash with Roma at the start of next month.

The Belgian is likely to miss out on his national team’s Nations League fixtures during the break, with coach Roberto Martinez wanting to give him ample time to recover in view of having him at his absolute best during the World Cup in November and December.

However, Lukaku could still make an earlier return than expected, as had happened in the summer of 2018 when he managed to get fit for the World Cup after having been anticipated to be a doubt due to a muscle problem.

Accordingly, a return in Inter’s final Serie A match before the break, away to Udinese on September 18, cannot be entirely ruled out.
