Legendary former AC Milan and Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi believes that Inter cannot let themselves get too defensive in their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich tomorrow and must commit to playing their attacking game.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the former coach gave his thoughts on what will be needed from the Nerazzurri if they’re to get a result against the German champions, stressing courage and not playing within themselves.

Bayern are considered to be one of the strongest teams in European football at the moment, a fact which could carry with it an intimidation factor for many opponents.

Inter will know that they have their work cut out for them, and they will also be aware of the need to be at their absolute best defensively if they are to keep out an attack as prolific and full of quality as Bayern’s.

However, Sacchi warns against the team becoming too preoccupied with defense to the extent that they sacrifice their natural attacking game.

“Inter will face a Bayern team who, like the Nerazzurri, are not at the top of their game right now,” he said.

“In the derby they started badly,” he said of Inter, “then they dropped off even more until they picked up and looked like they could have gotten a draw.”

“They must have more courage, and Simone Inzaghi must pass on his knowledge to the team,” Sacchi continued. “If he succeeds, he’ll have managed a masterpiece.”

“If, on the other hand, they continue to play defensive football, Inter will allow to the opponents, all opponents, to be dangerous,” he noted.
