Outspoken former Inter, Roma, Real Madrid, and Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano has criticized defender Alessandro Bastoni for some defensive lapses in Saturday’s 3-2 derby defeat to AC Milan.

Speaking on his Instagram story, as reported by FCInterNews, Cassano restated his previous views that Bastoni is not at a high enough level defensively, and suggested that the 23-year-old should focus on improving his game instead of social media likes.

Cassano has already made his views on Bastoni clear, arguing in appearances on Christian Vieri’s Instagram channel that the former Parma and Atalanta defender is overrated and not a top-level defender.

The 23-year-old is aware of Cassano’s criticisms and has responded on social media, but Cassano feels that the the response should come on the pitch rather than on social media, something which he did not see from Bastoni who was part of a very shaky Nerazzurri backline against Milan on the weekend.

“Inter are struggling, especially at the back,” he said. “Instead of goading me on social media for likes, Bastoni should wake up and concentrate on marking the forward.”

“He’s making disastrous errors,” Cassano continued, “Inter are conceding a lot of chances, and when you give chances like that to top players you concede three goals.”

“Eve in preseason it’s been like that,” he added. “Bastoni needs to wake up instead of paying attention to social media likes and followers.”
