Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi was left “astonished” by what he saw from his team as they conceded two goals to city rivals AC Milan from basic defensive switch-offs in Saturday’s 3-2 derby loss.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri coach was particularly upset with how defenders failed to react to obvious danger when the Rossoneri were on the attack.
Inzaghi was frustrated with Milan’s first goal, which came from a misplaced pass by Hakan Calhanoglu which led to a quick counterattack through the Nerazzurri’s right side, but felt that it was a structural breakdown that showed where the team needed work.
For the Rossoneri’s second and third, however, he felt that his players simply switched off in decisive moments, appearing to stand statue-still and largely not doing anything to prevent Olivier Giroud or Rafael Leao from finding the back of the net.
