Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi will be hoping to see a new level reached by striker Lautaro Martinez in the Champions League this season.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, who note that the 25-year-old has yet to make a decisive impact in Europe’s top competition, and that finding another gear and scoring more goals could be key to the Nerazzurri taking a step forward as a team.
Inter will have their work cut out for them trying to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League for the second season running given that they find themselves placed in the “group of death” alongside heavy hitters Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
The Nerazzurri will feel that they cannot simply remain as good as they were in Europe last season and still reach the round of sixteen, but must if anything be better.
One aspect in which Inter’s performances last season could have improved was in the fact that Martinez was not always at his best in the Champions league, mostly saving his best form for Serie A.
If the Argentine can find another gear in Europe and score more goals against continental opposition, it could very well be the spark that ignites Inter to reach another plane in the Champions League.
