Inter will be hoping that striker Lautaro Martinez can lead them to a result against one of Europe’s very best teams in the form of Bayern Munich tomorrow as he did against Liverpool at Anfield in March.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who suggest that the Nerazzurri will be looking for a moment of magic from the Argentine similar to his long-range screamer to hand the Reds their only home defeat of 2022.
Inter were not able to progress to the quarter-finals against Liverpool, as a 1-0 victory at Anfield was not enough to cancel out their 0-2 defeat at San Siro on aggregate.
However, the result was undoubtedly a big statement of how far the Nerazzurri have come in Europe, and an indication that they are not intimidated by facing off against some of the continent’s genuine elite.
This is certainly a category which includes Bayern, and the German champions are widely expected to be some of Inter’s toughest opposition of recent seasons across the two group stage matches this season.
However, if the Nerazzurri can play with the confidence that they did against Liverpool in March and find a moment of inspiration from somewhere, they will be believe that they can get a result, and Martinez could be the player for that inspiration to come from.
