Andre Onana is now the favourite to replace Samir Handanovic in goal in the starting lineup for Inter’s Champions League group stage opener against Bayern Munich this evening.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, who confirm reports that the 26-year-old is in pole position to start the match, which would be his first competitive appearance in a Nerazzurri shirt if it is to be the case.

Onana joined Inter from Ajax in the summer but so far has had to settle for appearances in preseason friendlies as captain Handanovic has maintained his starting spot between the posts over the team’s first five Serie A matches of the season.

However, reports over the last few days have suggested that the Cameroonian’s debut is getting closer and closer in the upcoming matches, and then that it could come as early as this evening against Bayern.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi looks to be ready to put his faith in Onana to prove his worth against the German champions, dropping his captain to the bench.
