Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann believes that Inter will be a formidable opponent for his team both in terms of their defensive and attacking prowess.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia before the match, the German coach gave his thoughts on what he expects from the Nerazzurri, giving special mention to their defensive structure as well as the quality of and danger posed by their midfielders.

Inter and Bayern will both go into this evening’s match fancying their chances while at the same time well aware that they will be coming up against one of the most difficult challenges of their respective seasons.

Bayern are considered to be one of the strongest teams in Europe, though they are not invincible, and Nagelsmann was clear that he expects Inter to be a tough match for his side on the pitch based on their quality and the players that they have.

“Inter are a team who press high when the opponent try to impose themselves, they defend one-on-one very high up the pitch,” he said.

“But even against Milan it was evident that they can also defend deep, compact, with a 5-3-2 shape ready to launch a counterattack,” he continued, “although they’re also a team that wants possession given the midfielders they have.”

Nagelsmann named “Brozovic, Barella, and Calhanoglu are players who want the ball at their feet and often shoot on goal.”

He predicted that “There will be phases of the game in which Inter will defend deep and compact, and that’s where we will have to be good at finding offensive solutions, there are similarities with the match against Union Berlin, I hope the result will be different.”
