Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is risking the team’s snowballing bad form becoming an avalanche if they suffer a heavy defeat in their Champions League group stage opener to Bayern Munich this evening.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who suggest that a particularly painful result against the German champions this evening could substantially deepen the sense that there is a crisis in form at the Nerazzurri.

So far Inter have lost two out of their opening five Serie A matches, with the sense being that they are not yet close to an out-and-out crisis, but that questions are being asked given the problems that have emerged in their performances against direct rivals in the table.

Against Bayern, the expectation will be that Inter are not the favourites, and that any sort of credible performance would be a big statement, whether it is a win, a draw, or a loss by a narrow margin while playing well.

A big defeat, however, could start to pile the pressure on Inzaghi and his team, however, as it would give the sense that the early cracks that have appeared in the season have widened into big fissures.
