Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana is happy to have made his first competitive appearance for the Nerazzurri, but ultimately unhappy with the fact that the team fell to a 2-0 defeat against Bayern Munich in their Champions League group stage opener.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the 26-year-old gave his reaction to a match which saw a personal milestone for him but also a big setback for the team.

There was not a great deal that Onana personally could have done about either of Bayern’s two goals on the night, and in fact the Cameroonian produced a few solid stops and largely looked comfortable despite making his debut in a high-pressure situation against the toughest opposition.

However, the goalkeeper had to pick the ball up out of his own net on two occasions, and this was the impression that was left with him in the end even though there were many positives to take from his first start for his club.

“It was a difficult match,” the Cameroonian said, “we faced a great opponent. We did our job, we just couldn’t find a goal. It certainly didn’t go as we expected, but we’re sure that if we keep going along this path, the results will come.”

Of making his first start for the Nerazzurri, Onana reflected that “When someone makes his debut he’d always happy, but in the face of defeat it’s always hard to be happy, these kinds of moments are complicated.”

“The most important thing for me is always that the team wins, obviously I hope that next time it will go better,” he added.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s Serie A clash with Torino, Onana said that “I expect it to be a difficult match, it’s never easy because everyone always gives their all against Inter, and Torino are a team who play good football.”

“We have to give everything and get back to taking three points as soon as possible,” he stressed.
