Inter striker Edin Dzeko feels that the Nerazzurri had to be more clinical with the opportunities that came their way in their 2-0 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the 36-year-old gave his thoughts on the need for a more clinical attacking performance to get anything out of their first group stage match against the toughest of opposition, and stressed the need to immediately turn their attention to Torino on the weekend.

Clear-cut opportunities were few and far between for the Nerazzurri, with a decent header by Dzeko from a corner standing out among a few half-chances, none of which were seized upon to find the all-important goal.

By and large any positive play that the Nerazzurri produced was not enough to penetrate a strong defensive display by the German champions, and the quality was not there to turn any promising moments into anything more.

“It was a difficult match but we expected exactly that,” Dzeko said. “Bayern are one of the strongest teams in the competition and today they showed why that is.”

“We had our chances,” he continued, “we had the possibility of scoring and changing the game, but unfortunately we did not manage to, and so we lost.”

As far as what the team was missing, the Bosnian explained that “In the first half, the final ball was missing. Then in the second we had two or three occasions in which we were unable to score, and then if you give a team like that space they’ll punish you.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s Serie A clash with Torino, Dzeko said that “We’re still at the beginning of the season, it hasn’t been an easy start so far but there are a lot of matches to come and we must immediately forget this defeat and think about Torino because it’s an important match for the league, where we’ve already dropped some points.”
