Inter were undeniably outclassed by Bayern Munich in yesterday evening’s 2-0 Champions League defeat, and for Italian media the difference came down to the precision with which the two sides respectively executed their ideas.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica note that the German team were able to smoothly play their passes and move around the pitch without overcommitting, whereas the Nerazzurri lacked the fluidity and technical accuracy to balance attack and defense.

Inter did have a number of bright moments and occasionally created danger for Bayern, but there was always a sense that they were one bad pass away from conceding a dangerous counterattack when they went on the attack.

The Bavarians, by contrast, sustained their possession moves with great composure, particularly from midfielder Joshua Kimmich, not pushing too hard or overcommitting themselves but never too far away from creating a goalscoring chance.

The German champions switched the play at will and played intricate passing competitions throughout the ninety minutes, yet almost never got themselves outnumbered defensively or looked on the back foot, and it will have felt like a lesson in how to play at the highest European level for the Nerazzurri.
