Defender Francesco Acerbi could make his Inter debut very soon, possibly in the Serie A clash with Udinese before the international break, with Stefan de Vrij still not looking at his best.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi is ready to hand an opportunity a 34-year-old very soon.

De Vrij was left out of the starting eleven for Inter’s Champions League group stage opener against Bayern Munich, with Milan Skriniar replacing him in the centre of the back three and Danilo D’Ambrosio playing on the right.

The Dutchman is likely to return to the starting lineup against Torino tomorrow, but the sense is still not that he is a guaranteed starter in his position.

Acerbi was signed on loan from Lazio at the end of the summer transfer window with the clear plan of backing up de Vrij, and he could already be used in the next few matches as Inzaghi looks to put pressure on the Dutchman’s starting spot.
