Former Cagliari and SPAL head coach Leonardo Semplici believes that Inter are among the teams who can compete for the Scudetto this season, but that it is still too early to say whether they will be able to.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio CRC, Semplici gave the view that it will take at least ten or so matches to really understand the lay of the land in the Serie A title race, and gave his thoughts on the situations at the Nerazzurri as well as Juventus.

Inter have endured a fairly rough start to the campaign, with two losses against direct rivals in Serie A among their first five matches in the competition, but they are still only four points off of Atalanta in top spot and right in the thick of it with the rest of their main rivals.

Things are clearer now for the biggest teams in the Italian top flight than they were before the start of the season, but as Semplici points out, there is still a long way to go before the real dynamics of the title race start to be revealed.

“I believe that at [top teams] they’re used to expecting certain results, and after five or six matches it’s impossible to judge the season,” he said. “It’s true that Inter and Juventus are not meeting expectations.”

“The Nerazzurri have stumbled, but they’re still the major candidates to win the Scudetto in my opinion,” he continued. “Juve have lost some players to injury, so I think we’ll have to wait 10-12 matches to see the real strength of these teams.”
