Legendary former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga feels that there are three main positives to take away from the Nerazzurri’s Serie A win over Torino earlier this evening.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the match, Zenga gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s performance to secure a 1-0 win and three points, highlighting their mental and physical energy and the performance of captain Samir Handanovic in goal
Inter had to overcome a tough, organized, and physical Torino team in order to get back to winning ways after defeats at the hands of AC Milan in the derby and Bayern Munich in their Champions League group stage opener.
Doing this was not straightforward by any means, and the Nerazzurri had to rely on some gritty performances, the concentration and intensity to compete for ninety minutes and work their way into the match, and a top display by captain Handanovic.
Zenga said that “The team came out playing intensely, which is very strange considering that they played in the Champions League.”
“There are three positive things to take way,” he continued, “Handanovic has shown that he’s still the starting goalkeeper, the second is that in terms of the physical and mental aspects they’re still holding up.”
“The third is that playing against Torino is never easy, they’ll keep you under pressure for ninety minutes and finding a spare man is never easy,” he added.
“In the first half Lautaro came very deep to get on the ball and they followed him all over,” he continued. “When you encounter a team like this you have to change the way you play and attack.”
“Torino created many scoring chances,” he noted, “we still need to work on this.”
“I think Onana will play in the next match,” Zenga continued. “For me the starter is still Handanovic, but given what happened last season with Radu, it’s right to give him the chance to play in the cups. “
