Inter captain Samir Handanovic produced exactly the response to dropping to the bench during the week that he’ll have wanted to with his display against Torino in yesterday evening’s 1-0 Serie A win.
This is the view across Italian media, as highlighted by L’Interista, with the Nerazzurri captain praised for putting in the best performance of any player in his team just a couple days after having watched on from the bench in Wednesday’s Champions League group stage opener against Bayern Munich.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi took the bold choice of handing Andre Onana his debut in Wednesday’s clash with Bayern, and even though the team were outclassed and lost 2-0, the Cameroonian nevertheless put in an assured and impressive display.
However, the coach decided to revert back to the captain in goal for yesterday’s Serie A clash with Torino, and the sense was that his decision was proven to be the right one as the Slovenian showed all his quality and kept his team in the match before their eventual winner.
The Gazzetta dello Sport, TuttoMercatoWeb, and L’Interista all gave Handanovic a score of 7/10 for his performance in their player ratings for the match, whilst Tuttosport and the Corriere dello Sport went even higher, to 8/10.
