Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that the Nerazzurri’s performance against Torino in their 1-0 Serie A win on Saturday was better than many are giving it credit for.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Bergomi praised the Nerazzurri’s display against the Granata, arguing that given the tough circumstances it was a very praiseworthy display even if on the surface it was hardly Inter at their fluid and dominant best.

Inter lacked the spark and technical precision to win the midfield battle against Torino particularly in the first half at the San Siro, whilst in attack the final ball was lacking as the Nerazzurri struggled to create chances until later on in the second half.

However, the performance was a physical and competitive one against one of the best teams in Serie A at forcing that type of match, and in Bergomi’s eyes the fact that the Nerazzurri were able to cope with it after a rough week against AC Milan and Bayern Munich and then force a winner isn’t to be underestimated.

“I’m going against the tide, but they played the kind of match that I like to see,” he said, “they suffered and it wasn’t a great Inter but everyone gave 100%.”

“I didn’t see any signs of impatience, everyone was able to understand the state of the match,” he continued.
