Former Inter defender Daniele Adani feels that Inter have failed to replace the stylistic profile of Ivan Perisic and Alexis Sanchez after losing the duo on free transfers during the summer transfer window.

Speaking to Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, Adani suggested that the Nerazzurri do not currently have a player of either Perisic or Sanchez’s quality in the dribble, and that they should have signed Paulo Dybala on a free transfer.

Perisic’s departure always looked like a significant one given that the Croat had arguably been Inter’s outstanding player last season, whilst Sanchez’s loss also deprived the team of a certain specific profile even if in his case the Chilean had always looked likely to leave due to his high wages.

Now, even though the Nerazzurri’s squad is hardly lacking in either physical or technical quality, Adani feels that they lack a player who can come up with a bit of invention and creativity to beat an opponent one-on-one.

“Inter lost two dribblers in the form of Perisic and Sanchez, who haven’t been replaced,” he said. “That’s why I said that Inter had to sign someone like Dybala, especially after losing a player like Sanchez.”

“A player with those characteristics can unlock a match with just one moment of magic,” he continued.

He argued that Sanchez showed that he can be decisive when given playing time “More than many other players at Inter. You can’t think of solving all the team’s problems with Lukaku, especially when you’ve been trying to become a possession team.”

Adani also spoke about the goalkeeping situation at Inter, stating that “I can’t question Handanovic, the saves against Torino were those of a top-level goalkeeper.”

“Onana is the future,” the former defender added. “Inter’s season seems to me like it hasn’t started yet, it’s right to rotate, but you have to bring new ideas on the pitch.”
