Inter defender Federico Dimarco feels that the team do not need to get hung up in thinking in the longer term about what results they might need to get out of their Champions League group, and should simply focus on the match at hand.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset ahead of the Nerazzurri’s Champions League group stage clash with Viktoria Plzen, the 24-year-old stressed focusing on getting the result one match at a time and not getting ahead of themselves.
Inter will know that they have to start picking up sooner or later in their Champions League group following an opening day defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich, and that three points against Viktoria would be the perfect way to gain a foothold in the group.
However, for Dimarco, the point is not to become preoccupied with an imaginary number to work towards, but to do everything they can at each opportunity to take points.
“We came here to play our game, we have to try to bring home the three points,” he said., and then when asked if he thinks ten points is the target he replied “I don’t know, we have to see what happens in the other matches as well. We just take it one match at a time.”
“Surely winning this match would give us a sense of enthusiasm,” he added.
Dimarco then noted that “I think the victory in Torino, apart from being a good match, was a real team victory. We were compact.”
