Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan feels that the Nerazzurri did well to get three points against Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League which can help them build momentum and confidence.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the Armenian praised the team for their composed and controlled performance to see off the Czech champions by a 2-0 scoreline, and emphasized immediately shifting their focus to Sunday’s Serie A match away to Udinese.

Inter will not have taken anything for granted against a Plzen team who they knew play a physical and committed style of football and can be very hard to break down as well as very dangerous on the counterattack.

The Czech team showed a couple of flashes of what they can do, but the match was largely played at the Nerazzurri’s preferred tempo, and they saw off the result without taking too many risks, something which Mkhitaryan was happy with.

“It was important to win and to gain confidence,” the midfielder said. “We have to keep going like this. We knew it wouldn’t be easy, but we prepared for it well.”

“I thank my teammates,” the 33-year-old continued, “we had an excellent game. We try to keep the ball and create chances in every match we play, today we were able to, against Bayern was different.”

“We scored in the first half and then in the second, and the second half was easier after their red card,” he noted.

Looking ahead to their clash with Udinese on the weekend, Mkhitaryan said that “We have to have our head there, it will be difficult because they’re a well-organized team with a lot of individual quality.”

“We’ll do everything to win and go into the break with a win,” he added. “It’s important to pick up points and get on the path we want to be on.”
