Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries feels that the Nerazzurri did well to not lose their composure and break down Viktoria Plzen methodically in this evening’s Champions League group stage clash.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the Dutchman praised the team for being patient and calmly securing the 2-0 to get their group stage campaign off and running.

Inter were hardly taking three points for granted despite undeniably being the much stronger team than Plzen on paper, but their performance was exactly what it needed to be to suffocate the home side defensively whilst creating enough to be good value for the 2-0 scoreline in the end.

The Nerazzurri played their game even in spite of the physical defensive performance from the Czech team, and they were rewarded with a win that sees them get a real foothold in their pursuit of the knockout stages of the Champions League and gain some much-needed momentum.

“We knew that they’d play a very defensive match,” Dumfries said of Plzen. “I think we did well, we were very patient. We had a good game and we hope to continue like this.”

Of his goal, the Nerazzurri’s second, Dumfries said that “I dedicate it to my teammates, I’m happy to have scored and I think we did a good job tonight. I think this evening it was important to have won just as we did against Torino, now we have to think about the next match which will be very difficult, we’re returning to our level.”

“Udinese are doing very well this season,” the Dutchman noted, “but we have the qualities to put in a good performance on the pitch. It will still be a tough match.”
