Defender Francesco Acerbi is silencing his doubters within Inter with the attitude and character that he has already shown in his first couple of weeks at the club.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that following the 34-year-old’s successful debut performance for the Nerazzurri in Tuesday’s Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen, he has already gone some way towards winning many over.

Acerbi was not a signing that everyone wanted to see at Inter, with many fans suspicious of the 34-year-old’s links to AC Milan as well as his age and a perceived lack of ambition by the club in targeting him.

Even President Steven Zhang was widely reported to have questioned whether Acerbi’s wages would be a wise investment, but one man who clearly never had any doubts was coach Simone Inzaghi, who pushed for a reunion with the defender with whom he worked for three seasons at Lazio.

The coach showed the full extent of his trust in Acerbi by giving the defender his first start in a Nerazzurri shirt against Viktoria Plzen over the week, and the 34-year-old repaid Inzaghi’s faith with a solid display at the back, lasting ninety minutes and seeing out the clean sheet.

Apart from the reliable quality on show in Acerbi’s performance on the pitch, however, the feeling is also that his presence has been a positive influence within the squad, with the former Sassuolo defender’s teammates impressed with his attitude.
