Inter had been interested in signing wingback Destiny Udogie this summer, but the deal was beyond them financially, and so he went to Tottenham Hotspur instead.

This according to transfer intermediary Stefano Antonelli, who told Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb that the Nerazzurri had spoken to Udinese about potentially signing the 19-year-old, but that the deal was unviable financially speaking.

Udogie made the switch to Tottenham during the summer transfer, although he was loaned back to Udinese where he will spent another spending developing with the Bianconeri.

The young Italian had been reported to be one of the players who Inter were monitoring as a direct replacement for Ivan Perisic after the 33-year-old left on a free transfer at the start of the summer, also joining Tottenham.

However, as Antonelli explained, affording Udogie would have been unrealistic for the Nerazzurri given that the interest in him made his value quite high.

“It’s true that Inter were interested in the player, but it would have been a signing with financial dimensions that they couldn’t meet,” he said. “It was not a viable pursuit.”

“Although Ausilio did try to make it possible to sign him, as did Juventus, Tottenham were the ones who paid 20 million plus 6 million in add-ons when they made their offer,” he explained.
