Inter defender Francesco Acerbi could be in the starting eleven for Sunday’s Serie A clash with Udinese.

This according to Italian news outlet Sky Sport Italia, who report that the 34-year-old is in serious contention to start ahead of Stefan de Vrij after his performance in the Nerazzurri’s Champions League clash with Viktoria Plzen during the week and what he’s shown in training.

Acerbi made his first start for Inter in their 2-0 group stage win over Plzen on Tuesday, less than two weeks after joining on loan from Lazio on the final day of the transfer window.

While the initial thinking may have been mainly to give de Vrij a rest, Acerbi’s performance impressed coach Simone Inzaghi, who has also been very happy with what he’s seen from the defender in training.

Accordingly, the 34-year-old could start for the Nerazzurri in their final match before the international break away to Udinese this weekend.
