Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is not planning to rotate between Samir Handanovic and Andre Onana in goal between Serie A and European matches, and still considers the captain to be the first-choice in goal.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the coach is currently only planning to start Onana in Champions League matches where there are two or more league fixtures between them.

Over the past few matches, Inzaghi has switched up between Handanovic and Onana regularly, with the Slovenian starting every league fixture so far whilst the Cameroonian has started both Champions League matches, against Bayern Munich and Viktoria Plzen.

The captain is set to return in goal against Udinese this weekend, meaning that he’ll have started all of the league matches, and Onana all of the Champions League matches.

This does not mean, however, that this will be the policy going forward, and Handanovic is still likely to start in both matches against Barcelona after the international break, as the coach will not look to drop him regularly for Onana just yet.

With the captain set to get two consecutive league starts against Fiorentina and Salernitana, however, Onana could be given another start in the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen next month.
