AC Milan President Paolo Scaroni feels that building a new stadium in Milan will be absolutely essential for both Milan and Inter to keep up at the elite level of European football.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Scaroni emphasized the need for the teams to build a new stadium which can bring their revenues into line with those that support the continent’s top clubs.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have been pushing hard to begin construction on a new stadium which they believe will be absolutely vital for them not to lose touch with the financial elite within the European game.

The respective financial struggles of both clubs are no secret, and this is a contrast to many other big clubs in Europe, particularly in the Premier League, and for Scaroni there is no question that the new stadium would be of absolutely vital necessity to not get left behind.

“Having a modern stadium is essential for the growth and evolution of the two clubs and of all Italian football,” the Rossoneri President stated.

“We need to bridge the gap between Serie A and the other major leagues in Europe, first and foremost the Premier League, where stadium revenues represent one of the main growth factors in recent years,” he added.
