Former Inter defender Daniele Adani feels that the Nerazzurri did well in their Champions League victory over Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday but that there are still aspects of their game that have to be worked out.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, Adani gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 group stage victory, and also particularly praised the performance of debutant Francesco Acerbi at the heart of the back three.

Inter secured their first three points to get a foothold in a difficult Champions League group away in Plzen, playing their football and effectively outclassing the Czech champions to be more than good value for their margin of victory.

The performance was a good one, if not exactly the team at their spectacular best, and Adani’s feeling was that the important thing will be to not simply look at the result but also to analyze the whole performance looking for faults to improve upon.

“When analyzing a match, beyond the result, all the components must be taken into consideration,” he explained. “The match had little spectacle all in all. It was a match where a team who were not at their best got their victory, with a brilliant Edin Dzeko, and another did nothing.”

“Viktoria Plzen offered very little in front of their fans,” he continued. “Inter picked up a good result, but obviously it still has things that need to be worked on.”

Of Nerazzurri wingback Robin Gosens, Adani said that “He’s a guy who needs to be physically fit, because he’s not Marcelo. He needs to be able to make his runs into the box without fear, he needs trust from the team and physical condition.”

And of Acerbi, he said that “In my opinion it was important for him to stay lucid and focused, because the opponent did little. He didn’t have much marking to do in the box, but when he had to he did it.”

“A defender who plays for the first time in a while has to show concentration and he did so,” he said of the 34-year-old.
