Former AC Milan and Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo feels that even though Inter have had a rougher start to the season than some of their direct title rivals, they are still the favourites to win Serie A this season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the former Italian international reaffirmed his view that the Nerazzurri are the favourites to win the Scudetto ahead of AC Milan and Napoli despite the fact that their start to the campaign has been far from perfect.

Inter’s twelve points from eighteen over the first matches of the season is not the return that they’ll have been hoping for from their first six matches, although it is far from catastrophic as far as their title hopes go.

The likes of the Rossoneri and the Partenopei have had better starts to the campaign, as was also the case last season, but at the same time there are scarcely a few points to make up, and the Nerazzurri’s quality is hardly in question.

Asked if he still thinks that Inter are title favourites, Montolivo replied that “At the moment, yes. Even if Inter have slipped up a little more than Milan and Napoli and showed a few more difficulties, on paper I still definitely put them as favourites.”

“Having said that, however, Napoli and Milan have so far shown that they can kick on and improve,” he added.
