Inter wingback Robin Gosens and defender Francesco Acerbi have earned call-ups to their respective national teams despite having had a relatively small role to play for the Nerazzurri this season.

This is noted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, who highlight the fact that the pair remain important players for the German and Italian national teams respectively despite their seasons having not yet caught fire at club level.

Inter signed Gosens in January off the back of not just his strong performances for Atalanta in Serie A, but also a string of impressive displays for the German national team.

Even though the 28-year-old has yet to show the kind of form he did for either Atalanta or playing for his country, Die Mannschaft have brought him into the squad, with the German potentially set to reprise his role down the left where he was a key man at the Euros last summer.

Meanwhile, Acerbi remains a reliable head for the Italian national team, even though he did not have the best of seasons at Lazio last campaign, and only just made his first appearance for Inter this week after joining on loan on the final day of the transfer window.
