Inter are hoping that after their first meeting with Milan Skriniar and his representatives, the air will be cleared regarding his prospective contract extension.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri are exploring all options to extend the Slovakian’s deal as soon as they can, and will hold the first meeting soon.

It is not certain that the first meeting with Skriniar and his representatives during the international break, but it should be very soon in any event.

The thinking at the Nerazzurri is that the first talks should already virtually be decisive, as they don’t want to see the player’s contract situation drag on for much longer.

Accordingly, the first meeting will be used to determine how much the player would be willing to extend his deal, and what terms it would take to find a swift agreement.

Inter are ready to offer the Slovakian €6.5 million net per season on a new contract that would run until the end of June 2027.

This would be a substantial increase from the €3.8 million net per season he currently earns, but it will be remain to be seen whether this amount would be enough after he had been ready to sign a deal with Paris Saint-Germain worth €7.7 million net per season, rising to €9 million with add-ons.

Inter also have some Plan B solutions in mind, including potentially offering the 27-year-old a shorter-term deal, similar to the one which Paulo Dybala signed with Roma in the summer.

This would mean that there would be no risk of losing the defender on a free transfer next summer, although it would effectively mean that the situation would become an issue again in a summer or two.

The situation could be similar to that of Marcelo Brozovic last fall, in which the midfielder had considerably higher wage demands than Inter were initially offering, but only ever wanted to agree a renewal, allowing an agreement to be found.
