Inter coach Simone Inzaghi chopped and changed the backline throughout this afternoon’s Serie A defeat to Udinese to the extent that a total of four different trios comprised the back three at various points during the match.
This is noted by Italian news outlet FCInter1908, who suggest that the coach deprived the team of some defensive stability by making so many changes to the defensive setup.
Inter began yesterday’s match with a back three of Milan Skriniar, Francesco Acerbi, and Alessandro Bastoni, but it was barely a half an hour in when Inzaghi removed Bastoni who was on a booking, replacing him with Federico Dimarco.
Next, the coach threw on Danilo D’Ambrosio for Matteo Darmian during the second half, moving Dimarco to left wing-back and shifting Skriniar to the centre and Acerbi to the left of the defensive trio.
Finally, towards the end of the match the coach threw on Stefan de Vrij for Acerbi, once again shuffling the positions of the back three around, whilst Acerbi who had been one of the team’s more solid performers on the night was replaced by de Vrij who was partly at fault for the Bianconeri’s winning goal.
