Inter defender Milan Skriniar was still not at his best in yesterday’s 3-1 loss to Udinese in Serie A, as summer arrival Francesco Acerbi was the one Nerazzurri defender who passed the test.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who argue that Skriniar’s performance was not a disaster but also nowhere near good enough to justify his reputation and status within the team.

Acerbi made his second start for Inter after debuting for the team in their Champions League away trip to face Viktoria Plzen during the week, and the 34-year-old did about as much as he could to be a steady presence at the back, keeping the back three organized and intervening when he had to.

Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco, and Danilo D’Ambrosio all took their place alongside Acerbi at various points, looking more or less anonymous as part of a team that was clearly in a slump as a whole, before Stefan de Vrij replaced him and the backline fell apart.
