Inter and Juventus would both be risking serious financial issues if they are to fail to qualify for the group stage of next season’s Champions League.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who note that the two clubs could lose out on revenues of around 80 million if they don’t pick up on their early season form and secure a place in the top four by the end of the campaign.

Both the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri have already seen their hopes of reaching the knockout rounds of the Champions League this season in some jeopardy, with the former winning one and losing one of their first two group stage matches whilst the latter lost both.

Failure to reach the round of sixteen would see the two sides miss out on revenues of €20 million from UEFA plus any additional windfall that would come from broadcasting revenues and gate receipts for the fixtures.

This would be nothing compared to the effects of possibly missing out on qualification for next season’s edition of the competition altogether if either fail to finish in the top four in Serie A, as the Gazzetta estimate that the total amount that the clubs would be deprived of would be roughly 80 million.
