Midfielder Kristjan Asllani could make his first start for Inter in place of the suspended Marcelo Brozovic in the team’s Serie A clash with Roma after the break, whilst Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also seen as a candidate for the role.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that Asllani could be ready to be called upon as Brozovic’s deputy although it is not certain.

Brozovic picked up his fifth yellow card of the season during the second half of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash with Udinese on Sunday, meaning that he will be out for one match with a suspension through accumulation of bookings.

Asllani had been signed to be the Croat’s backup during the summer, although so far the Albanian has hardly played as coach Simone Inzaghi has been reluctant to pile too much pressure on him early on in his Inter career.

The match with Roma after the international break will be the first big test for whether the coach feels that Asllani is ready to be Brozovic’s deputy, whilst Mkhitaryan was also signed for his versatility and technical quality as a potential regista.
