Legendary former Inter defender Marco Materazzi feels that the loss of Ivan Perisic is a key loss for the Nerazzurri, whilst Marcelo Brozovic remains one of the most important players to the team functioning.

Speaking to reporters on a promotion tour for the upcoming World Cup whilst in Croatia, via FCInterNews, Materazzi gave his thoughts on a current and former Nerazzurri player from Croatia.

Perisic had been arguably Inter’s outstanding player last season before his decision to leave for Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer, whilst Brozovic remained at the club after extending his contract in the spring.

The former had been a decisive influence with his consistent displays up and down the Nerazzurri’s left flank through all of last season, whilst the latter was consistently at the heart of everything in midfield, the regista who makes everything tick and sets the tempo both in and out of possession.

“Brozovic is the engine and the mind of the team,” Materazzi said. “Everything passes through him, you notice when he’s not at his best. He’s also an important man in the locker room.”

He went on that “Losing Perisic is a huge regret because he made the difference last year as the best player in the team and two seasons earlier in the title charge.”
