Inter will have to prove that they can do what Juventus did in 2015, and then they themselves did a few seasons later in 2020, by coming back from a number of dropped points early on in the season to win the Scudetto.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, who note the similarity to the start of the season for those respective sides, and suggest that the Nerazzurri will have to learn from them how to digest these early struggles and come back stronger.

Inter’s three defeats from their first seven matches hardly looks like the record of title favourites, although they could point out that Juventus had had an even worse record at the start of the 2015-16 campaign.

The Bianconeri looked as though their run of title wins would be over as they not only lost three, falling to defeat in their opening two games against Udinese and Roma as well as losing to Napoli, but also drew against Chievo Verona and Frosinone.

This miserable record of just eight points collected from seven matches was seen as a major crisis for the then-defending champions, but they roared back through the season to win the title by a significant margin.

Meanwhile, Inter’s twelve points is also the same amount after seven matches as they’d had at the same stage of the 2020-21 campaign, when they lost one and drew three in the same period.

Then-Nerazzurri coach Antonio Conte found the formula to right the ship just as Max Allegri had at Juventus five years earlier, and now it’s up to Simone Inzaghi to try and repeat the trick.
