Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal has said that Denzel Dumfries’ assist in the Nations League game against Austria made him jump out of his seat, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking after the match on Thursday night, via FCInternews, the former Manchester United coach spoke specifically about the Inter wingback who is a key part of the Dutch national team at the moment and is likely to be important at the World Cup.

The Netherlands won the game 2-0 in Austria and it was Denzel Dumfries who provided the assist for Cody Gakpo for the opening goal.

Louis Van Gaal was clearly deeply impressed by what he saw as he said: “Denzel gave the assist to Cody Gakpo for the lead. It’s great to see him attack like that, it was a super goal. That’s how I want to see it. I liked it so much that I jumped off the bench. I don’t normally do that.”

Denzel Dumfries has not been in very good form for Inter so far this season besides his late winner against Lecce on the opening matchday. Simone Inzaghi will hope that he can carry his international form into Serie A next week.
