Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has said that the situation of Inter defender Stefan de Vrij in the national team is not easy but he will help the team, according to a report in the Italian media.

As has been reported by FCInternews, the Dutch defender was speaking during a press conference for the Dutch national team when he addressed the situation of Stefan de Vrij and Matthijs de Ligt.

Both the Inter player and the former Juventus man spent the entire match against Poland on the bench and much has been made about whether they will see many minutes at the Qatar World Cup.

Virgil van Dijk stressed that everyone knows their role in the team and both Matthijs de Ligt and Stefan de Vrij will be able to offer something to the team at the tournament.

“I think at this point in the process everyone knows their role in the team, the coach has been very clear on this issue. In their case it is not an easy thing to deal with, but they will always be there when we need them. They will help the team by making their contribution, that is important to be successful.”

Stefan de Vrij has been in poor form for Inter this season so far.
