Inter could have sold Stefan de Vrij in the summer transfer window for €18 million but they may now lose him for free instead, according to a report in the Italian media.

As has been reported by Alfredo Pedulla for La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri may have missed their only chance to get a fee for a player that they signed on a free transfer in 2018 from Lazio.

The Dutch defender is out of contract in the summer and therefore can leave on a free transfer unless he signs a new contract or is sold in January.

It is known that some teams were interested in signing him in the summer such as Tottenham Hotspur but the move did not materialise and Inter did not try and facilitate a deal.

He is now in poor form and many will wonder if the correct decision was made in the summer window.
