Inter defender Francesco Acerbi has said that Italy wanted to show that they can play with cohesion during the 1-0 win over England on Friday night, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking during an interview with the Azzurri official media, via FCInter1908, the new Inter defender talked about how important it was to beat Inter and the reasons behind why the team was so desperate to win at San Siro.

“It is very special to win with England, but we wanted to show that the group was cohesive and that we wanted to do well in front of our fans.”

The game was won thanks to a strike in the second half from Napoli forward Giacomo Raspadori who was very impressive throughout the match.

The result meant that England were relegated to League B of the UEFA Nations League whilst Italy still harbour hopes of winning the group which also contains Hungary and Germany.

Surprisingly, Hungary are the team at the top of the group right now having beaten England and Germany in Budapest in recent months.
