There have not been any developments regarding the contract situation of defender Stefan de Vrij at Inter, whilst Franccesco Acerbi is threatening to take his place in the first-choice starting eleven.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that at the moment, things are stalled between the Nerazzurri and the defender.

De Vrij’s current deal is set to run out at the end of June 2023, and so if he does not sign an extension, would be available to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Right now, the Dutchman’s situation is very much up in the air, and could be made even more so by the fact that at the moment his place in the starting eleven is hardly guaranteed.

Two strong performances by summer arrival Acerbi in his first month at the club could be enough to convince coach Simone Inzaghi to make the Lazio-owned defender first-choice at the heart of the back three at least for a while, which could complicate contract negotiations with de Vrij.
