Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Roberto Gagliardini are both candidates to start for Inter in Saturday’s Serie A clash with Roma if Hakan Calhanoglu is not fit enough to play from the start.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that Calhanoglu’s fitness will be a decisive factor in determining who is in the starting eleven alongside Nicolo Barella and Kristjan Asllani as the Nerazzurri prepare to face the Giallorossi.

Calhanoglu’s recovery from a thigh injury is coming along well, and he should be ready to make his return soon, but there is no guarantee that the 28-year-old will be fit enough to start against Roma.

In the event that Calhanoglu is only fit enough to make the bench, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will consider both Mkhitaryan and Gagliardini as options to start alongside Barella and Asllani who are virtually certain to start the match.
