Inter wingback Federico’s form with the Italian national team has shown that he has what it takes to be a real foundational pillar around whom the Nerazzurri can build for the future.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who suggest that the 24-year-old has proven that he can be right there with Nicolo Barella and Alessandro Bastoni as reliable and sturdy pieces of Inter’s squad in the long haul.
Dimarco returned to Inter as a mature player last summer after two seasons on loan with Hellas Verona that had seen him come on leaps and bounds, but at the same time he did not exactly establish himself as a starting eleven regular right away.
The 24-year-old made a number of starts throughout last season, both on the wing and on the left of a back three, but the sense was always that he was more of a utility man completing the squad than someone who was a part of the Nerazzurri’s best team on the pitch.
However, that season saw further improvement, so much so that Italy coach Roberto Mancini decided to start giving Dimarco opportunities in the national team.
The 24-year-old’s performances in an Azzurri shirt have also seen improvements, culminating in his standout displays against England and Hungary over the international break.
In the view of the Gazzetta, there is now little reason to doubt that Dimarco can be an important player for his club in the seasons to come, having exhibited the same growth that his teammates Barella and Bastoni had in the past few seasons.
