Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that at the moment his team are getting punished every time they switch off, and this is reflected in their poor form to start off the Serie A season.

Speaking in a press conference after the Nerazzurri’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Roma earlier this evening, as reported by FCInterNews, the coach tried to understand the reason why the team have lost four matches out of eight in the league, and also stated that right now he’s not sure when striker Romelu Lukaku will be back fit.

Inter went into this evening’s clash with the Giallorossi with the sense that a victory would be the only result that would really give a positive sign for the rest of their season after the difficulties that characterized their season prior to the international break.

Instead, the Nerazzurri lost for the fourth time in the league and the fifth time in all competitions, and Inzaghi will have to grapple with what is behind the moments of inattention for which his team have been paying dearly all season.

Asked if he finds the start to the season worrying, the coach replied “Absolutely, yes. I was more worried after Udine, but even then this loss hurts, in our own stadium after playing a good match.”

“It was the best match that we’ve played out of the eight so far, but that’s not enough,” he continued, “we come out of it having lost 2-1 to a direct rival, and we have to lick our wounds.”

Asked when he expects striker Lukaku to be back from his thigh injury, Inzaghi said that “I don’t know if he’ll be ready to play against Sassuolo, there’s some hope but I’m not confident.”

“His recovery hit a bump in the road, we were thinking about bringing him back to full training but then after more tests we realized that wasn’t possible,” the coach went on.

“He’s working a lot, and we hope to have him back soon,” he added. “That’s football, his absence hurts us, but then Brozovic and Gagliardini are missing as well.”

“We have to recover because so many matches are coming up close together,” the coach noted. “Carboni also made his debut, and he deserved it based on how he’s been working in training.”

Of how the team can stop losing these types of matches, Inzaghi suggested that “We need to pay more attention to the details. At the moment we pay for every lapse in concentration, on [Roma’s] second we switched off, which was the same for Udinese’s equalizer.”

“I have to review the match,” he noted, “especially the last 7-8 minutes of the first half when the gaps started appearing. After that though I thought we were in complete control, but sometimes you deserve the result and still lose.”
