Andre Onana could permanently replace Samir Handanovic in the starting spot in goal for Inter after the captain’s unconvincing display against Roma yesterday.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the captain could be running out of excuses with Onana’s opportunity to take over on a permanent basis getting more in sight.

So far this season Onana has made two starts in the Champions League, in which he has impressed, but the pecking order has been clear as Handanovic has started every match in the league.

However, the captain’s performance in yesterday’s 2-1 loss to the Giallorossi was far from convincing, particularly his effort to save Paulo Dybala’s equalizer.

In truth, the Slovenian has been this way all season, and before, showing flashes of his enduring quality but also regularly prompting questions about his reliability.

Accordingly, with Onana likely to start in the Champions League once again when Inter face Barcelona this Tuesday, coach Simone Inzaghi will have a lot to think about, and the 26-year-old could be made first-choice sooner than expected.
