Former AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini feels that while Inter didn’t play badly on the whole in their 2-1 loss to Roma, the match exposed their mental lapses in certain moments.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, Ambrosini argued that the Nerazzurri’s display was a solid one but that they came up short in the moments that mattered the most.

Inter had more of the ball against the Giallorossi, dictated the tempo for much of the match, and did not allow a dangerous Roma attack to get into their penalty area very often.

However, a lack of ruthlessness when they were on the attack, as well as a lack of composure and concentration in defensive situations was enough to cost the Nerazzurri.

For Ambrosini, it is more complicated than just saying that Inter did not play well, but they certainly did not show the right attitude and attention when it was needed most.

“I don’t think that Inter had at a bad match at all, but at the moment they’re paying for some moments of negligence which is causing them to drop points,” he argued.

“Even against Udinese they conceded from a free kick, for example,” he noted.

Ambrosini argued that “Today it wasn’t a fantastic match, but in terms of the balance of play they didn’t suffer much from Roma.”

“It was a balanced and hard-fought match,” he continued, “Inter lost on a set piece, they’re a team that can’t manage certain moments mentally.”
