Inter’s defensive wall seems to be coming apart brick by brick at the moment, as none of the first-choice defenders are looking reliable on the pitch.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who note that the error made by Milan Skriniar on Roma’s winner yesterday resembled that made by Stefan de Vrij for Udinese’s winner before the international break.
For the Nerazzurri, the defensive issues that have appeared this season have had a strong dimension of the overall team game and a lack of compactness on the pitch.
However, individual mistakes have also been noted, with de Vrij having been largely responsible for both giving away the corner from which Udinese scored their winner and then committing a marking error to allow Jaka Bijol to get free and scored.
Yesterday, Skriniar was the one who made the fateful error, as he didn’t track Giallorossi defender Chris Smalling who then went on to score.
