Young Inter attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni is set to receive his first ever call-up to a Champions League squad in this evening’s group stage clash with Barcelona.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, who report that the 17-year-old will be among the Nerazzurri’s squad to face the Blaugranas, a first in his young career.

Carboni has been a part of the Nerazzurri’s first-team squad this season, making his first actual appearance for the club off the bench in the second half of their Serie A match against Roma over the weekend.

The young Argentine has never been in a Champions League squad, however, as he was not eligible under UEFA rules regarding youth team players in the competition when the Nerazzurri face Bayern Munich and Viktoria Plzen.

However, the match against Barcelona this evening comes after the cutoff point of two years spent in Inter’s youth system which makes a player eligible for UEFA, and so Carboni is set to be in the squad.
