Inter could be at risk of causing stylistic confusion among their defenders if they keep alternating between Andre Onana and Samir Handanovic in goal

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who note the different styles and attributes of the two keepers and how the backline could struggle to constantly adjust for playing with such different presences in goal behind them.

Onana put in a good display against Barcelona yesterday evening, and while the Cameroonian didn’t have too much to do in terms of shotstopping, his overall performance was observably different from how Handanovic played.

The 26-year-old is quite proactive in his positioning which against the Blaugranas seemed to be very helpful for the back three who all played with greater confidence that has been seen from them so far in the campaign.

If Handanovic is then put straight back into the lineup, it is not exactly clear how the defenders will feel playing with the captain behind them.

The 37-year-old certainly has his own positive characteristics, particularly his shotstopping which has gotten his team out of jail on numerous occasions over the years, but quite simply does not interpret the position the way Onana does.

If one keeper or the other does then the defense can start to build and understanding from match to match and establish greater continuity, but if the uncertainty and alternation continues then they risk being confused by the constant disruptions.
