Inter striker Lautaro Martinez feels that he could not have missed out on this evening’s Champions League clash with Barcelona.

Speaking to InterTV after the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 win, the 25-year-old stressed that it was too important of a match to miss out on with a minor fitness concern.

Martinez had been a doubt for this evening’s match due to a slight muscular problem that he had picked up after Saturday’s Serie A clash with Roma.

However, the problem was not determined to be serious enough to keep the Argentine out of this evening’s match.

Accordingly, Martinez was risked from the start against the Blaugranas, and in fact managed to see out the ninety minutes, not getting a goal or assist but fighting hard to help the team to a massively important victory.

“This is a special evening because it was a win we needed,” Martinez said, “and we certainly enjoy it even more due to the way in which it came.”

“It’s been a period in which the results haven’t been coming,” he continued, “today we needed a win no matter how it came, and it’s arrived.”

“From here on, things will change,” the striker emphasized, “we hope to start again from this victory, and this team spirit we showed.”

“It was a victory of heart and character,” Martinez stated, “I’m happy for the work we’re doing even if the results hand’t been arriving.”

“Tonight we scored at the right time and we won an important match.”

The striker explained that “Today I had a bit of fatigue, but I couldn’t not be on the pitch.”

“Right now we need a lot of heart,” he stressed, “I want to give a hand to all my teammates, and also to all the fans who’ve supported us so much.”
